ATAK phone mount options: chest, arm and admin pouch setups

TL;DR

An ATAK phone mount is any mount that holds your phone hands-free on your kit, and nothing about it is specific to ATAK. The real choice is a chest mount for a plate carrier or chest rig, an arm mount, or a fold-down admin pouch, and the right one depends on the rig you already wear, the case you will buy and your budget.

Key takeaways

  • Any phone mount works for ATAK, Tacnav or any other map app.
  • Buy for the rig you already wear: plate carrier, chest rig or neither.
  • Most dedicated mounts lock only to their maker's case, so pick case and mount together.
  • Arm mounts suit a full chest or long stretches lying prone in woodland games.
  • Admin pouches take any phone in any case, but you open them each time you look.

An ATAK phone mount is any mount that holds your phone hands-free on your kit so you can glance at a map app without digging through a pocket. Nothing about it is specific to ATAK. The real choice is between a chest mount (plate carrier or chest rig), an arm mount (forearm or armband) and a fold-down admin pouch, and the right one depends on the rig you already wear, the phone case you are willing to buy, and your budget.

Below: what to check, seven products with their specs and prices taken from the makers’ own pages in September 2026, a comparison table, and how to set one up before game day.

What an ATAK phone mount has to do

ATAK, the Android Team Awareness Kit, is an Android smartphone app for geospatial and situational awareness, and it is part of the larger TAK family of products.[1] The civilian build, ATAK-CIV (Civil Use), is listed on Google Play by the TAK Product Center, and the listing says it requires Android 5.0 or later.[2] If you want the longer story, our plain-English guide to ATAK covers what it does and when a team needs it.

For the mount, the app barely matters. A mount that holds your phone steady at a readable angle works the same for ATAK, Tacnav or any other map app. What changes is the phone, the case, and where on your body there is room.

Any map app works on any mount. The mount only has to hold the phone where you can see it.

What matters when you choose one

Five things decide whether a mount helps or annoys you by the second game of the day:

  • Anchoring. Spiritus Systems says a device mounted between the shoulder straps of a chest rig tends to make the straps sag and the device flop around unless it is anchored.[3] A phone that bounces is a phone you stop looking at.
  • Quick release. You will pull the phone to show a teammate the map, photograph an objective or charge it in the safe zone, often while wearing gloves. Try the release with gloves on before you buy into a system.
  • Screen angle and glare. A mount that tilts lets you read the screen with a glance down instead of bending your neck. A matte screen protector cuts glare on an open field.
  • Case compatibility. Most dedicated mounts lock only to their own maker’s case or adapter, so choosing the mount usually means choosing the phone case at the same time.
  • Cables and weather. Check where a charging cable can run, and how you will keep rain off the screen on a wet weekend.
Bottom line: buy for the rig you already wear. A great plate carrier mount is useless on a chest rig with no spare webbing.

Chest mounts for plate carriers and chest rigs

Juggernaut.Case Armor Mount

This is the fold-down plate carrier mount most people picture when they search for an ATAK mount. The Armor Mount hooks through any standard 3 row by 4 column area of PALS webbing on a plate carrier and locks to mating ribs on a Juggernaut case, with mount sizes S to XL matched to the case.[4] Its hinge rotates up to 135 degrees with a tension thumb screw, it has a retention tab and a cable routing channel, and it was listed at $120.00 when checked in September 2026.[4]

Limits: it needs a Juggernaut case in the right size, which adds to the cost, and it needs a free 3 by 4 patch of webbing on the front of your carrier.

Spiritus Systems EUD Bridge

The EUD Bridge solves the sagging-strap problem on chest rigs. It mounts between MOLLE-compatible chest rig shoulder straps, attaches with tuck tabs and snaps, and was listed at $59.95 when checked in September 2026.[5] Spiritus also says it can carry a 4-column MOLLE admin pouch for upper chest access.[5]

Limits: it is a platform, so you still add a phone mount or pouch on top of it.

Ferro Concepts Chesty ATAK Panel

If you already wear a Ferro Chesty Rig, this panel adds a MOLLE platform for an ATAK mount to it, installs with a hook and loop sandwich and elastic shock cord anchors, and was listed at $56.00 in September 2026.[6] Ferro says it may fit other rigs, but it was designed around the Chesty Rig.[6]

Limits: it ships without device, case or mount, so budget for a mount on top.[6]

Arm mounts: forearm and armband

Juggernaut.Case Forearm Mount

The Forearm Mount fits around the forearm or bicep with a Boa Fit System and is meant for chest rigs or plate carriers without PALS webbing on the chest.[7] It covers an arm circumference of 10 to 17 inches, locks to a Juggernaut case, and was listed at $145.00 when checked in September 2026.[7]

Limits: it is the most expensive option here, and like the Armor Mount it only takes a Juggernaut case.

Quad Lock Sports Armband with the Universal Adaptor

Quad Lock sells its Sports Armband for running. It holds the phone with a twist-and-lock mount and was listed at $39.99 when checked in September 2026.[8] If you do not want a Quad Lock case, its Universal Adaptor uses 3M adhesive to bond to most smartphones or cases so they work with Quad Lock’s twist-lock mounts.[9]

Limits: it was designed for runners rather than for a rig. It sits on the upper arm, and a stuck-on adaptor is a commitment for that case.

Admin pouches that fold down

Tactical Tailor Fight Light Admin Pouch Enhanced

Tactical Tailor’s pouch opens fully or works as a desk on an adjustable cord, has a removable fold-out map pouch, measures 5 by 8 by 2 inches, attaches with two included MALICE clips, and was listed at $88.00 in September 2026.[10] Open on the chest, it gives you a flat surface for the phone and a notebook side by side.

Blue Force Gear Admin Pouch

Blue Force Gear’s Admin Pouch needs a 4 by 3 MOLLE field, weighs 128 grams empty, and was listed at $79.95 when checked in September 2026.[11] Its main compartment is sized for a leader’s notebook.[11]

Why pouches still make sense: an admin pouch takes any phone in any case, which suits a club with a pile of different phones. The cost is that you open a flap or a zip every time you look.

Choose:

  • A fold-down plate carrier mount (Juggernaut Armor Mount) if you wear a carrier with open PALS on the front and you are happy to buy the matching case.
  • A chest rig platform (Spiritus EUD Bridge, or the Ferro panel on a Chesty Rig) if your straps sag under a phone today, then add a mount or admin pouch on top.
  • An arm mount if your chest is already full of pouches or you spend long stretches prone behind cover in a woodland game. The screen stays readable when a chest mount would be pressed into the ground.
  • An admin pouch if you want any phone in any case to fit, or you lend kit to new players.

On the app side, be honest about what you need. If your group already runs ATAK with a TAK server, stay with it: that setup does things a simpler app does not, and the mount decision is the same whichever map app is on the screen.

If your group is a mix of iPhones and Android phones and nobody wants to run a server, Tacnav puts everyone in a session on one shared live map, joined by scanning a QR code, with markers, routes and chat. It is on the App Store, and Android is in closed beta (request Android access). It does not connect to TAK servers or ATAK clients.

Setting it up before game day

Fit and test the mount at home the week before the game:

  • Fit it with the whole rig on, eye protection included, and check that the open phone clears your pouches, sling and radio lead when you move. Kneel, crouch and lie down once in the living room; a mount that digs in on the floor will dig in on the field.
  • Test the release with gloves. If you cannot free the phone one-handed, you will not do it mid-game.
  • Route power early. For a long game, run a short cable from a power bank in a pouch along the strap, and tuck the slack so it cannot snag. A map app with the screen on and GPS running drains a battery far faster than a phone in a pocket.
  • Set the phone before the first briefing: screen timeout, brightness, and offline maps for the field if your app supports them.
  • Plan for rain. A clear zip bag over the phone is cheap insurance on a wet weekend.
Safety: keep your eye protection on while you read the screen, and step out of the flow of play to look at a map. Follow the site’s rules on phones in CQB areas and during safe-zone briefings.
Bottom line: the best mount is the one that fits the rig you already own and lets you read the map in two seconds. Sort the case first, then the mount, then the app.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a special phone mount for ATAK?

No. ATAK is an Android map app, and any mount that holds your phone steady at a readable angle works for it, just as it does for Tacnav or any other map app.

What is the best way to mount a phone on a chest rig?

Chest rig straps tend to sag when a phone hangs between them, so a platform that anchors to both shoulder straps helps. The Spiritus Systems EUD Bridge does this on MOLLE-compatible straps, and Ferro Concepts makes a panel for its own Chesty Rig; you add a mount or admin pouch on top.

Do I need a Juggernaut case to use a Juggernaut mount?

Yes. The Juggernaut.Case Armor Mount and Forearm Mount lock to mating ribs on a Juggernaut case, and the mount size is matched to the case.

Can I use a phone mount if my plate carrier has no free webbing on the front?

Use an arm mount instead. Juggernaut.Case says its Forearm Mount is meant for chest rigs or plate carriers without PALS webbing on the chest, and a running armband such as Quad Lock's is a cheaper option.

Should my airsoft team switch from ATAK to a simpler app?

If your group already runs ATAK with a TAK server, stay with it, because the mount decision is the same whichever app is on the screen. A simpler app such as Tacnav suits a mixed iPhone and Android group that does not want to run a server.
